Shopping for a Valentine’s Gift in Bangkok

Love for Valentine's Day

With Valentine’s Day approaching, many are heading out into Bangkok to find the perfect gift for that special someone. In fact, we find that many of our guests at Centre Point Pratunam are in town specifically to take advantage of the spectacular shopping opportunities.

With that in mind, we’re listing a few of the best places to shopping for a Valentine’s Day gift in Bangkok:

Pratunam
Bangkok’s most talked-about wholesale shopping district, Pratunam features clothing, shoes and accessories at rock-bottom prices. Wherever you travel in Thailand, the small and affordable fashion merchants you come across are likely selling clothing that can be traced back to Pratunam – even if they didn’t travel there personally to procure it.

Needless to say, prices for clothing and fashion don’t really get any lower than this, especially if you’re buying in wholesale quantities. But even if you are just interested in buying a single blouse or a pair of shoes, most of the merchants at Pratunam will still offer you a highly competitive retail price.

Pratunam doesn’t offer high-end fashion or designer goods. However, it’s a great place to pick up a highly affordable outfit or accessory that looks like it ought to have cost more than it did.

Ratchaprasong
Ratchaprasong district bills itself as the ‘Heart of Bangkok’, and this certainly holds true in the retail department. This is the epicentre of designer goods and fashion – with enormous malls and glamorous boutiques. If your shopping budget is as endless as the love you share with your Valentine, then Central Embassy and Siam Paragon are where you’ll want to focus. That said, there are also bargains and discounts to be found in neighbouring areas such as Siam Square.

Here is a list of the most popular shopping areas in and around Ratchaprasong:

  • Amarin Plaza
  • Central Chidlom
  • Central Embassy
  • CentralWorld
  • Gaysorn
  • Siam Paragon
  • Siam Square

Asiatique the Riverfront (Evenings Only)
This relatively new addition to Bangkok’s retail scene combines the strolling pleasure of a walking market with the selection of quality of a shopping mall. Visiting Asiatique is an experience in and of itself – as it features 1,500 boutiques, shows with high production values and an enormous Ferris wheel that visitors can ride.

With that in mind, Asiatique is well-suited for a couple’s outing. You can make an evening of it, enjoying dinner for two and browsing the selection of stalls and shops before and after. Then take in the cityscape of Bangkok from the apex of the grand wheel.
